Alan Higinbotham Pottery
Wheelthrown porcelain clay with emphasis on beautiful forms; what I make is one-of-a-kind work, entirely designed and made by me. I high-fire to 2350 F, balancing heat, time and oxygen. The glaze chemistry and reduction (O2-starved) firing yields rich Copper Reds and time-honored Celadon greens. My hope is to add color and richness to daily life.
A key influence on my work was Dennis Staats, my first teacher. I studied under a master potter in Japan in the 1980s and have been a professional potter for over 40 years. High-fired functional art pieces: from wall platters, dinnerware, teapots, vases, pitchers, goblets, bowls of every kind, to sinks and urns.
