ARTIST STATEMENT

I am primarily a doll maker. I love the female form and all her adornments. Each doll will take 12 - 15 hours over an entire month. It’s a long process of modeling, forming, slow drying, twice firing and glazing. Once finished, she is strung together and perhaps dressed.

My vessels and wall pieces are inspired by early 20th century art pottery. They are heavy and substantial, like small statuary. I use a mid-range stoneware. First thrown in my backyard patio on an old Lockerbie kick wheel, they are then carried off to my attic studio! Transformed with figures and fancy, they are allowed to slowly dry until finally ready for the kiln’s fire. Their surface is typically a mix of porcelain wash, copper oxide and glaze.

I am a jack of all trades: theatre teacher and director with the Multnohmah Arts Center, a musician with Karaoke from Hell (live band karaoke,) as well as a founding member of the Sidestreet Arts gallery, where you will find my work in person and online.
