ARTIST STATEMENT
My first experience with clay was in high school in the late 70's. Once touched, I became addicted. My mom being a known chef, was the inspiration of all the kitchenware I create. My pieces are plain, simple, pleasing to the eye and meant for every day use.
I am basically a self-taught potter with a couple ceramic courses at PCC. I have been a member of OPA since 1995.
All pieces designed, start in my mind first. I do not sketch them beforehand as not to lose the initial driving force. We use the prototype pieces at home so we know how the design functions overall. This allows for changes before the final pieces find their forever homes. All of our Stoneware is fired to a mid-range cone 6 temp in an electric kiln. The glazes we create are non-toxic and food safe.
