ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a Native Oregonian, born in Eugene. At 5 years old, my Dad discovered clay in our back yard. My sister and I loved making bowls out of that smooth, plastic mud. I continue today, to look at the world with clay in mind...seeing the colors and textures in nature as related to clay. When I started College... as my Dad would say I found the Pottery Studio and never left. I enjoyed firing gas, wood and soda kilns.

Now that our family is grown and caring for parents has passed, I am creating in clay again. I fire at cone 6 Electric, searching for that elusive functional glaze. My pottery is wheel thrown and hand built and bowls are still my favorite form. I create pots that will function in the kitchen, vessels that are durable and dishwasher safe. I also love making work for the garden such as flower pots and traps for those darn slugs!

I have sold through Outdoor markets and small Galleries, but Ceramic Showcase will be my first sale since setting up my garage studio.
