ARTIST STATEMENT

Jan Rentenaar is a fourth generation Oregonian and second-generation clay sculptor. Experiencing the wild stormy Oregon coast from a young age inspires her sculptures that capture legends of peoples both near and far. This ranges from the local Native Americans and their horses, to across the ocean to Japan. The Bonsai pots she creates suggest weathered and textured stones, which reflects their natural environment that is similar to the Oregon coast.

Jan’s achievements include:
- Sept 2020 cover photo and article in “National Bonsai Society” magazine.
- July 2018 documentary video of artist for “Bonsai Mirai International.”
2014 Juried art exhibit selection for “Sapporo Museum of Modern Art” in Japan.
- 2010 Featured artist “The Portland Japanese Garden.”
- Since 1999 member of “Stark Street Studio,” the longest running ceramic studio in Portland, OR.

Work available at:
"White Bird Gallery" Cannon Beach Or.
