ARTIST STATEMENT

I became a professional clay artist in the 1980s. I have experimented with many clay techniques, for a time I made humorous sculptures of animals, then I used low-temperature clays and made plates featuring humorous cartoons. Later I became involved with high temperature wood fired ceramics.

I now work with on the potter’s wheel and with slabs, focusing on making functional pottery with colorful, jewel-like, surfaces. I fire in a gas fueled kiln, which I built with my husband, Jim Koudelka, a fellow clay artist. My pottery is made to be used. I am honored when people return year after year to add new pieces of pottery to their collections.

The widest variety of my work is available by making an appointment to visit my studio in Portland, Oregon. Other options are to shop online at my website or on Etsy, or visit these galleries: Mossy Creek Pottery (Lincoln City, OR); Oceanic Arts (Newport, OR); Sticks & Stones (Florence, OR); RiverSea (Astoria, OR); Valley Art (Forest Grove, OR)
