ARTIST STATEMENT
A serious functional potter for 43 years, I now have 4 distinctive bodies of work:
1. Functional, colorful, clean-lined dinnerware and serving pieces of mostly solid glazes that showcase the food they contain. I make bowls of every size, mugs, vases, and textured trays, all meant to be lived with and used daily.
2. Bas-relief wall sculptures. I use multiple layers of stoneware clay, shaped, carved and textured, reproducing my photographs into 2.5 D paintings. Glazed with multiple colored clay slips then fired. I’m inspired by European walled cities, Provencal homes and Oregon's iconic landscapes and structures.
3. Life size true-to-breed chickens, either in nesting boxes or standing free range.
4. Black, Etruscan-inspired animal figures.
After 43 years in clay, I'm thrilled to explore different techniques. It's magical that such diverse work comes from the same clay, kiln and hands.
I hold in-home & studio sales every year, this year May 2&3 and October. Contact me for details!
