Jim Koudelka
Portland, Oregon
ARTIST STATEMENT
Jim Koudelka received his MFA from Indiana University. He was a Professor in Ceramics at the Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland, Oregon for 28 years. He is now retired and a working studio artist.
Jim’s recent functional work explores the vessel as a painting in the round with the form becoming a sculpted 3 dimensional canvas. His interests in abstract and geometric patterns and objects from the Mid Century Modern era inform the designs and compositions presented on his functional ceramics. Paintings by abstract artists such as Piet Mondrian, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Alexander Calder and Joan Miro are also an influence. Works are currently made of red earthenware or high fire porcelain.
The widest variety of his work is available by visiting his studio in Portland, Oregon.
