Julie Stewart Pottery
I work in Portland at Stark Street Studios and Gallery, which is the longest running ceramic cooperative in the city. My work is always available by appointment and during open gallery hours.
I love making functional stoneware ceramics that people can use in their everyday lives and become part of their routines. I throw most of my work on the potter's wheel, a process I love, but I also alter forms and hand build. I spend quite a bit of time making colorful pieces using the magical, low fire, raku firing process. My inspiration was growing up in the Pacific Northwest and spending as much time as possible in the mountains. I started working in clay in over 50 years ago in high school and now in retirement from a teaching career, I am realizing my passion full time.
