Chaotic Earth Pottery
Hood River, Oregon
My studio is located in an oak forest overlooking the Columbia river, where the natural beauty informs my art. My ceramic work is inspired by the intersection of the human and the natural world. My background in various mediums, including printmaking and painting, can be seen in the way I approach the process of making art.
Over the last year, I have been exploring the use of a rock tumbler to age broken pieces of discarded pots, and turning them into jewelry. The softened feel and muted colors reminds me of broken mosaics and ancient artifacts, worn by time. I have also been making anthropomorphic sculptures based on stories of creation and destruction, and the concept of nature reclaiming human-made objects. Texture is an important part of my work - the tactile feel and the process of creating it are what keep me engaged in the studio.
Find my work at The Frame Gallery in downtown Hood River, and online in my Etsy store. You can visit my studio during the Gorge Artists Open Studios.
