ARTIST STATEMENT
My name is Richey Bellinger. I have been working with clay for almost 50 years now, and I still enjoy the excitement and challenge of creating new work with clay. I recently retired from 20 years of teaching ceramics at Portland Community College, and the consistent time spent in my home studio during the pandemic has been highly therapeutic and productive.
I make most of my work on the potters wheel using either porcelain or stoneware clay. I produce a variety of functional pottery forms, including mugs, bowls, vases, and lidded jars, to name just a few. My newest creative direction has involved the development of colored stains for on-glaze decoration. I fire all my work to cone 10, in a reduction atmosphere, using the small propane-fired kiln behind my studio.
If you are interested in contacting me about my work the best method is to email me. We can then figure out the most appropriate way for you to view my work, given the fluid situation with the pandemic.
