West Linn, Oregon
I make ceramic sculpture that explores human and animal characters with a psychological point of view and often a dash of humor. I also make Wallies, small animal sculptures that hang on the wall. They’re colorful and fun.
I hand build using a gritty sculpture clay, incise into the clay, bisque fire, finish with stains, underglazes and glazes, then fire to cone 5. Occasionally I indulge cravings to make functional pottery, though I’m mostly interested in making one of something, decorating it like crazy, then moving on to something different. My ideas derive mostly from collage, reading, doodling, and sketching. Reflection and writing help me recognize and make some sense of the progression of pieces: they tell my story in clay and keep me moving forward.
I sell through my online shop, from my studio including participating in Portland Open Studios, and from galleries including Guardino Gallery, Hanson Howard Gallery, Rowboat Gallery and Higher Art Gallery.
