ARTIST STATEMENT
I discovered clay while studying to become a graphic designer in college. I took every ceramics class I could until I graduated. And then I put clay away for 15 years to focus on an advertising career. In 2010, I was feeling burned out, so I took a 2-month sabbatical and enrolled in a local pottery class. When the class ended, I retired from advertising and turned my garage into a studio. For many years I continued to take classes & workshops to find out what I enjoyed doing the most – carving!
My inspiration is the Oregon coast and my garden. I create a flowing canvas by wheel throwing and altering mid-range porcelain. My carving pattern is then layered, creating even more movement. Each unique piece is functional and glazed with a silky, white exterior and a bright color inside, bringing both peace and joy into your home.
You can find my work at PNW art festivals, and now my Etsy shop – message me for free curbside pickup, a covid-safe studio visit or shipping anywhere in the US.
