Maya Ceramics and Paintings

Veronica Arquilevich Guzman

Portland, Oregon

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am originally from Mexico. I moved to Portland, OR in 2003, lived here 4 years and then moved to China, Vietnam, India and Malaysia. I came back to Portland in 2015. I studied graphic design in Guadalajara, Mexico, graduating in 1998. I started out painting, paper mache and doing ceramics in 2001 in Kuala Lumpur, when I couldn't focus on painting, due to culture shock.

With my work I represent Mexican traditions combined with modern elements, transforming them into contemporary art. My series of Barn Swallows birds are handmade pieces individually crafted with texture making each piece so unique. Birds and nature are an important part of my artwork. I had been a wonder artist for many years and these birds represent my continuous search for renewal.

You can purchase my work at https://www.mayaceramicsandpaintings.com/ , https://www.etsy.com/shop/MayaCeramicsPainting, at Alberta Street Gallery, Attic Gallery in Camas, Washington or Art in the Village at Multnomah Village.
