ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve been weaving since 2016. I weave with all kinds of fiber. I like every weave structure I’ve ever tried. I want my designs and handwoven textiles to be fun and elegant.
Bob Applegate (husband) and I moved to 20 acres outside Yamhill, OR in 1997. We developed a lavender farm called "Willakenzie Lavender" and an alpaca business called "Velveteen Alpacas". The lavender bud and essential oil were processed into culinary and body care products. The alpaca fiber was processed into lovely yarn you will find in my handwovens.
Now it's all about weaving and offering handwovens for sale through "Ornament and Design Handwoven Textiles". A year ago we moved to Brush Prairie, WA. The studio space holds 4, 8, and 12-shaft floor looms, a beautiful birds-eye maple squirrel cage swift and an old Bernina sewing machine. The softness and warmth of alpaca fiber live on in many of my handwoven textiles. The color lavender turns up often in my designs.
