When attending College I fell in love with fibers in my first weaving class and participated in a trip to India with my emphasis on fiber arts. Post graduation I served an apprenticeship with an oriental rug shop to repair knotted rugs and flat woven pieces. Over the years my repertoire expanded with workshops in tapestry weaving and explorations into other fiber processes including machine free form embroidery, modern quilting and collage techniques.
Inspiration is derived from travel photos from nature and artistic settings. These images imbue each project with a feeling of uniqueness yet familiarity. Using natural materials on some projects while others require recycled flotsam or
man made fibers that make their own specific statement.
While I like to participate in shows I enjoy commission selling most. It allows me to work with individuals to create pieces unique to the client. The theme and direction they envision, or need help envisioning, gives everyone a sense of participation and ownership of the final piece. Tee-Shirt and theme quilts are portraits of a person’s activities or memories made in a lifetime and are an intimate expression of fiber art.
