ReRugs by Liz
Liz Winsche started weaving rag rugs when she retired in 2006 after over 30 years working in public libraries. In 2011 she moved to Hillsboro, Oregon to be near family. Intrigued by knitting machines she started knitting socks as well. She currently knits and weaves out of her home and welcomes visitors to see the techniques and materials used.
Liz weaves the rugs on a floor loom designed for weaving rugs. Material used as weft comes from Goodwill and the Pendleton woolen factory. The rugs are made of about 90% upcycled material and machine wash and dry. The standard size is 2’ by 3’ but wider and longer is possible.
Socks are knitted on a restored 1907 circular sock machine. Commercial sock yarn is used so the socks can be machine washed and dried. They are sized by shoe size and can be knitted to order.
The rag rugs and socks are sold year round at the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center in Tillamook, Oregon or by contacting Liz in Hillsboro.
