ARTIST STATEMENT

As a weaver for fifty years, I love playing with color and geometric designs. Learning weaving through the Guilds, I studied with teachers in the U.S., Canada, England, and Sweden. I also teach weaving and design. This led to an in-depth study of the geometric motifs comprising larger patterns. My research is published in the book An Exaltation of Blocks written for weavers and grid-based designers using a hands-on approach with Design Pages and Transparent Overlays.

My specialty is a Swedish structure called “rep”, a warp-faced cotton textile with a ribbed surface created by alternating thick and thin wefts. My other interest is Japanese braiding or Kumihimo. I wrote three design books documenting patterns for 2-color braids in three distinct braid structures.

My work is in the Freed Gallery, Lincoln City, Oregon. I enjoy weaving on commission where a client is an active participant in the color and design selections. Examples of my work are on my website.
