Tom Poirier Handwovens
Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, Canada
As a child I learned the art of weaving from my mother, Beth Poirier.
I rediscovered weaving as an adult, and was immediately captivated by its complexity and expressive possibilities it offers.
I follow my mother's tradition of weaving heirloom towels using cotton, linen and other natural fibers. My towels are both functional and luxurious, a bit of art that you can use to dry the dishes.
I also make scarves of silk, alpaca, and other fine things, as well as unusual materials like tiny LEDs or hair-fine copper and stainless steel.
I recently moved to Nova Scotia, but my work can be found on my website, and in Portland at Wildwood & Company and A Day In The Life.
