ARTIST STATEMENT

I’ve always loved glass and was finally able to explore working with the media as kiln formed glass. Glass can be so beautiful and yet so fragile. Glass as a media for art is both inspiring and challenging. The colors and textures can add so much to a piece, yet getting them into a design that entertains, tells a story or has a beautiful functionality can be technically difficult and frustrating. However, the reward of waiting patiently to open the kiln and then to see the finished piece is worth it.

Currently, my glass work is in three directions. First is what I would call glass art. These are pieces where the glass actually paints a picture. They can be flat, displayed in a stand or frame, or three dimensional. Second, I make functional yet decorative pieces such as plates and bowls. Third, I love to create whimsical, sparkly and fun jewelry. This can involve simple fusing, etched patterns on dichroic glass or fused glass which has been cold worked to its final shape.
