ARTIST STATEMENT

I have worked in many art media including ceramics, watercolor, stained glass, and of course glass fusing. Although I am enchanted by the many manifestations of art, I find the culmination of my expression in fused glass. For me, the rich texture of ceramics, the fluid motion of watercolor, and the dynamic hues of stained glass, are all present in the design and issue of fused glass.

In addition, fusing allows me a unique relationship of give and take with my art. Fusing glass is about constant negotiation. The artist has control over the glass at the same time the glass controls the artist. The final piece is the result of harmony between the glass and the artist. The medium can be unpredictable; glass is fragile yet there is strength and flexibility. As both artist and technician, I have the initial vision of the piece, but in the end, the glass has the final say.
